Maa Shailputri Story

Once King Prajapati Daksh sent an invitation to all the Gods and Goddesses to come to his house to organise a Yagya, but King Daksh did not call Lord Shiva.

Whereas his daughter Devi Sati felt that she would also be invited. But he did not receive an invitation to attend the Yagya.

Still Goddess Sati felt like going to that Yagya, but Lord Shiva refused her.

Lord Shiva told Sati that he has not received any invitation yet to go to the Yagya, hence it would not be right to go there.

Still Goddess Sati did not listen to him. Due to his repeated request to go to the Yagya, Lord Shiva allowed him to go.

Then when Goddess Sati reached the house of her father King Daksh, she saw that no one at her father’s place was talking to her with respect and love.

At the same time, other sisters of Goddess Sati were also making fun of her and Lord Shiva. Prajapati Daksh, father of Goddess Sati herself, did not miss the opportunity to insult Sati.

Thus, all the people present there were treating Sati rudely but when Sati’s mother saw her daughter, she hugged her lovingly. But seeing such behaviour of everyone else, Sati became very sad. Then she could not bear the insult to herself and her husband Shivji.

After this, being extremely saddened by this insult, Sati sacrificed her life by jumping into the sacrificial fire there. As soon as Lord Bholenath came to know about this, he also became very sad. After this, the unhappy Lord Shiva, furious with anger, went to King Daksh’s house and immediately destroyed the yagya.

It is believed that this Sati was again born as Shailputri, the daughter of Himalaya.
