Legend of Sankashti Chaturthi 2024 (Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Katha)

According to Puranic tales, the divine marriage of Lord Vishnu with Goddess Lakshmi was fixed. Preparations for the grand event were in full swing, and all deities were invited except Lord Ganesha.

As the auspicious hour approached, and the procession of deities started, Ganesha was nowhere to be seen. The gods wondered if an invitation had been extended to Ganesha. Vishnu explained that an invitation had been sent to Ganesha’s father, Lord Shiva. If Ganesha wished to come, he would have accompanied his father, and there was no need for a separate invitation.

Intrigued, the gods decided to make Ganesha’s absence a topic of discussion. They speculated whether Ganesha had intentionally avoided the event or if he simply chose not to attend. Someone suggested that Ganesha, travelling on a mouse, would naturally arrive late, trailing behind the procession. The idea was accepted, and preparations continued without much concern.

Now that Lord Ganesha arrived there, and understanding the situation, he volunteered to take care of the house. Further, the wedding procession proceeded as planned, when suddenly Naradji noticed that Lord Ganesha was sitting at the door. He approached Lord Ganesha and inquired about the reason for his stay. Lord Ganesha explained that Lord Vishnu had disrespected him.

Upon hearing, Naradji suggested that you send your mouse army ahead; it will dig a path so that your vehicles can get through, and then you will be respectfully invited. Now Lord Ganesha quickly sent his mouse army ahead, and the army dug the ground. When the procession departed, the wheels of the chariots got stuck in the earth. Despite numerous attempts, the wheels wouldn’t come out. Everyone tried various methods, but the wheels didn’t budge; instead, they broke in different places. No one could figure out what to do now.
