Teej Festival 2024

Teej, a great monsoon festival, which brings women of northern and central India together in celebration. It falls in July or August, depending on the moon. The name “Teej” might even be linked to a tiny red insect appearing during the monsoon, symbolising Maa Parvati’s reunion with Lord Shiva.

The celebrations are full of colours and joy. Women dress up in their finest clothes, decorate their hands with beautiful henna, sing traditional songs, and swing on sturdy swings. They observe a ritualistic fast followed by delicious feasts. Energetic dancing adds another layer of vibrancy.
