Mata Kushmanda is called the goddess of energy. The name of this incarnation of Maa Durga is made up of three words – 1- ‘Ku’ meaning small, 2- ‘Ushma’ meaning energy and 3- ‘Anda’ meaning a sphere.
That is, the full meaning of the name of Maa Kushmanda is – a small ball of energy.
It is said that when there was darkness all around in the universe, Maa Durga appeared in this form and created the universe by creating light all around.
For this reason, Maa Kushmanda is also known as Adi Swarupa.

Maa Kushmanda Puja Vidhi
- On Chaturthi, April 12, 2024, after taking bath in the morning, meditate on Maa Kushmanda.
- After cleaning the place where you have done Ghatasthapana, place the idol or photo of Mata Kushmanda on a red cloth.
- Now apply Tilak to Mother Kushmanda with Kumkum and Akshat.
- Worship the mother duly by showing incense near the picture of Mata Kushmanda.
- Mother Kushmanda loves green colour, hence offers green flowers and offerings to her.
- Before concluding the puja, recite mantras worshipping Goddess Kushmanda.
- After that you should recite Durga Saptashati and Kushmanda Mata Aarti.
- By reciting these mantras all the wishes are fulfilled.
Maa Kushmanda Bhog (Maa Kushmanda Prasad)
Maa’s worship is considered incomplete without offering food. Therefore, make sure to offer Prasad to Mata Kushmanda. There is a tradition of offering Malpua on this day.
If for some reason you are unable to offer Malpua, you can also offer jaggery to the Mother Goddess.
By offering Malpua to Mata Kushmanda, the Mata becomes pleased and blesses us with happiness and prosperity.
